Missed Calls in Your Business: What to Do With Every Call You Missed

A missed call at a small business is usually a customer moving on to the next result on Google, because most callers do not leave voicemail. The fix has four steps: measure how many calls you really miss, call back within a fixed window, forward unanswered calls to a destination that answers, and let a digital assistant pick up when you cannot. This guide has every call-forwarding code used in Israel, the math on what those calls cost you, and what to do about it this month.

Phone screen showing missed calls at a small business

Every small-business owner knows the picture: you are mid-treatment, on a ladder, in a hearing or on another call. The phone buzzes in your pocket. At 17:00 you find 4 missed calls from unknown numbers, call back, and nobody answers you. Some of them have already booked elsewhere.

Why your business misses calls, and what it costs

A small business misses calls for four recurring reasons: hands are busy (a treatment, a repair, a customer at the counter), the call arrives after hours or on Friday, two calls land at once at peak time, and there is no reception or the phone is on silent. Each reason needs a different fix, which is why you measure first.

There is no Israeli survey on missed calls to small businesses. The most quoted figure is American: according to 411 Locals, 62% of calls to small businesses go unanswered. The other popular figure, that 85% of callers who reach voicemail never call back, has no traceable primary source, so we will not use it. What you can measure is your own call log, and we do that below.

Example calculation: what missed calls cost per month (22 working days)
Type of businessAverage value per inquiry (example)Missed calls per dayMonthly potential
Physiotherapy clinic₪250 per treatment2₪11,000
Plumber₪400 per job3₪26,400
Hair salon₪120 per haircut4₪10,560
Law office₪2,000 per small matter1₪44,000
Illustration only, with values you should replace with your own. Even if only a quarter of callers would have become customers, the figure exceeds the cost of every answering option on this page.

Four steps to handle missed calls

From measurement to 24/7 answering

  1. 1

    Measure for two weeks

Count in your call log how many calls went unanswered, at what hours and from what kind of numbers. Without that number every decision is a guess.

  2. 2

    Set a callback window

Return every missed call within 15 minutes, or send a “we saw you called” WhatsApp message right away. Whoever waits until end of day is calling someone who already booked.

  3. 3

    Forward unanswered calls

Activate no-answer forwarding, so that after 20 seconds of ringing the call moves to a destination that answers: a receptionist, a bureau or a digital assistant.

  4. 4

    Let the assistant answer

A digital assistant answers in Hebrew 24/7, books or logs the inquiry, and sends a WhatsApp summary. You call back only those who need you.

How to measure missed calls without special tools

  • Your phone's call log: filter “missed” for 14 days. Note the time and number. It takes 10 minutes and gives the basic picture.
  • Repeat numbers: a caller who tried twice without reaching you is the most valuable, because they specifically wanted you.
  • Split by hour: before opening, peak hours, evening and Friday. Each window needs a different fix.
  • PBX or business line: Bezeq Business, Partner and cloud PBXs provide a downloadable missed-calls report.
  • Once the assistant is connected: Azorly's dashboard shows every call forwarded to it, so measurement becomes automatic.

The callback window: 15 minutes or nothing

“I'll get back to you” is an Israeli phrase that is not always honored, and customers know it. A defined callback window, 15 minutes during work hours, turns the promise into something you can keep and measure. With Azorly the assistant promises the caller a specific window, and the dashboard flags overdue callbacks.

Two practical notes. Israelis screen unknown numbers because of telemarketing, so call back from the business number or by WhatsApp from the number the customer knows. And a WhatsApp message saying “we saw you called and could not answer, reply here and we will get back to you by 16:00” is a service message, so it is allowed under the spam law as long as it contains no promotion or advertising.

Call forwarding: the codes for every Israeli carrier and Bezeq

No-answer forwarding is the most important tool on this page. Your phone keeps ringing first, and only a call nobody answers within 20 seconds moves to the destination. Every Israeli mobile carrier (Pelephone, Partner, Cellcom, HOT Mobile, 012, 019, Rami Levy, We4G) uses the same GSM codes. In place of “number” you dial the destination, for example the assistant's number.

Call-forwarding codes in Israel (mobile and Bezeq)

  • Mobile: forward on no answer after 20 seconds · The recommended forward. Without **20 the carrier default applies, usually 20 seconds.*61*<number>**20#
  • Mobile: forward when busy or when you decline a call · Also catches a call that arrives while you are on another call.*67*<number>#
  • Mobile: forward when unreachable or switched off · Elevator, basement, flight.*62*<number>#
  • Mobile: forward all calls (follow me) · For vacation or after hours. Your phone will not ring.*21*<number>#
  • Mobile: cancel no-answer forwarding · On Cellcom the code is ##61#.#61#
  • Mobile: cancel busy forwarding · On Cellcom ##67#.#67#
  • Mobile: cancel forward-all · On Cellcom ##21#. To cancel every forward at once: ##002#.#21#
  • Mobile: check whether forwarding is active · Shows whether no-answer forwarding is on and to which number.*#61#
  • Bezeq (landline): forward all calls · Wait for the confirmation tone or message.*72<number>
  • Bezeq: forward on no answer · After 5 rings (20 seconds), fixed.*74<number>
  • Bezeq: forward when busy · *73 and *74 can run together.*73<number>
  • Bezeq: cancel · Also #73 and #74 to cancel the conditional forwards. HOT landlines use the same code family.#72
  • Golan Telecom does not use codes: forwarding is set on its website (My phone lines, Phone services, Follow me), and it resets on the 25th of every month.
  • Activation is free with every carrier. The forwarded leg is billed as an outgoing call under your line's plan: effectively free on unlimited mobile plans, a few agorot a minute on a metered Bezeq line.
  • Cloud PBX: ask the provider for a time condition (after hours to the destination number) or an overflow rule after 20 seconds with no answer.

A digital assistant: the destination you forward to

Forwarding is just a pipe. The question is who answers at the other end. Voicemail takes the call and loses it. A human bureau takes a message during package hours. A digital assistant like Azorly's runs the conversation itself: it answers in Hebrew, understands what the caller needs, books or logs the inquiry according to your characterization, and detects urgency.

  • A WhatsApp summary of every call within seconds: who called, what they wanted, what they were promised and what is urgent.
  • An urgent call by your rules is transferred to you immediately, and if you do not answer an urgent message is sent.
  • All without changing your number: the *61* code from the list above with the assistant's number, and one test call.
  • Pricing by minutes: ₪199 a month + VAT for 200 minutes, which covers 3–4 missed calls a day. The full comparison with human bureaus is on the “how much does phone answering cost” page.
